Title: Coaldale Plume agate

Jhon, this is for you since you posted about Material around Goldfield NV.  I collect this material near Coaldale NV.  When I first went there I found Seam material 4 - 4.5" thick and 12" dia. chunks.  This material I found in a different area and the seams are much smaller but the plumes are more delicate and curved.  I cut it a bit thinner and put basenite behind it for a doublet but the effect is awesome.  The one thing I found was I never got compliments on the pendant in the pic and I asked a girl at starbucks one day if she thought the material was real or man made and she said man made.  The plumes are just so perfect it bites you because no one questions if it is real or fake.  But I love it.

Wow nice doublets!!!  Ever back it with other colored stones?

I hadn't really thought about it.  I get the Basenite out in Mojave and it is plentiful so I just use it.  I do use Howlite occasionally against plumes that need a lighter background like I will for some of my Black Texas plumes.  The Howlite mine is near my house and you can get some large chunks.  I think it would look great with color but I think it would look even more man made.  Have you done some with colored background, if so you should make a topic and post some examples, I would love to see them.

Yep Jhon, that is the material from the first site and looks just like the big seams I got.  It lives up to the Icicle Agate name doesn't it? On some of the thinner seamer from the main area I cut horizontally thru the plumes to get a different effect also - looks pretty cool

I have only made one trip there and was not able to get a lot, I was with a couple of other people and they didn't want to say very long. and most of it was 3/4' thick. I am  heading out to the coaldale and tonapah area in the middle of july  meeting up with my friend from parumph and there is a couple of other areas he want to go to.
