Title: Wanted: Large Slab Polished
Post by: MrsWTownsend on September 21, 2014, 03:27:15 PM
Hi everyone!  A few weeks ago, a coworker of mine asked me to polish a slab of crazy lace his wife picked up somewhere.  I thought it would not be a problem for me to do using my disc grinder, however, I am getting rotary marks on the surface that I can't seem to get rid of.

Is there anyone in the forum who is willing to polish this slab, both sides, for a nominal fee?  The slab size is approximately 6" x 8"; it is not a high quality piece of material but it means something to them.  I have attempted to stabilize it and through all of the rigmarole that I have put it through it has held up quite well.  I really need some help with this project.

Gina - have you contacted any of the local places that do countertops that grind stone and polish the large slabs?  They might be able to polish this thing on their machines in seconds.  Just a thought.

My brother and nephews used to own a granite shop.   They polished most of their edges etc. with a power sander and dry sandpaper.   It was fast.   They used masks, of course, or maybe even respirators, as much as they did, but it might be the way to go for something relatively small like that.  But take safeguards!!!!!

I would be willing to try it on my Richardsons sander. If it is solid there should be no problem but crazy lace can be barely hooked together at times. Pm me if interested.
