Title: Jadeite #3
Post by: olgguy on July 30, 2016, 04:09:30 PM
Up date on Jadeite #2. Been trying to improve my polishing, almost there, but not quite. Ran a test with green jade at the same time for comparison.

OH, OH, Your supposed to use polish too? What kind on what type of wheel? I have been using the damp and dry worn out belt system down to 1/4 micron.

Looks like it is working for you. Might try that way myself.

Before diamond powders came along the trick for polishing both jadeite and nephrite was to use a worn 600 or higher carbide belt and let it dry out and heat up. These days i use 3,000 8,000 14,000 and 50,000 diamond belts and hand polish with 100k if needed.

The 50K is 1/2 micron and the 100K IS 1/4 Micron. When you polish by hand is that a paste or a piece of a belt?
