Title: Photo Problems?
Post by: Enchantra on August 07, 2016, 01:18:39 PM
Is anyone other than Phil having problems posting photos to the forum?
We need to know so we can hunt down the potential cause.
Randy and I have gone over the forum settings with a fine tooth comb and cannot find anything amiss, so we are both scratching our heads.
So if you are having problems this is what we need from you to help us figure this out:

1) The method you are using:  Attaching photos or linking from photobucket, Picassa etc...
2) The exact error message you are getting.  Screen shot it if you have to and email it to us if you are unable to copy/paste it to the forum.
3) The OS version and Browser you are using just in case there could be version conflicts with the forum.
4) The size of the photos you are trying to upload both in dimensions and KB size.

Also be aware you can pick up bad information packets/cookies anyplace at any time and sometimes problems can be easily fixed by emptying a browser cache and rebooting your computer.  I have through my own experience found that having Facebook open in another window while I am doing things can cause problems with slow uploads or freezing my browser - it is totally something to do with FB and out of my control so when I am posting pictures here on the forum I make sure FB is closed.

If you have any other concerns or questions please let us know.

The process of linking photos here or uploading them was designed to be as easy as a few mouse clicks, so this is why Randy and I are concerned that people may be having problems.  Please speak up if you are having problems.  We want to fix this.

No problems at all posting photos and I have a 7 year old computer.

How about testing by having him email the photos to you and them you post them.  If it is computer issue they should post for you and that would define the problem to his computer and he can get "Geek Squad hired".

If they will not post you can look at how the photos are formatted  - JPG or???

I've been having great luck using Tumblr for a photo-hosting site (Free, drag n' drop multiple photos in a single upload, much nicer simpler layout than Photobucket) and using 'copy image location' with the image tags here in posts. No trouble here! That site will also host some other file types, if the problem is non-JPEG files. It also conveniently autosizes them.

I also use an offsite hosting service (photobucket) and link my photos here.  I have no issues.

Says my photo is too large. I use a cell phone, Samsung 5. It's not worth my effort to learn how to resize my photos. I am not a digital guru and have no desire to expand my knowledge base of digital stuff. I love yalls pics and this forum. Yes I am sure it's easy to master the various techniques but I would rather be riding the horses, cutting rocks, drinking coffee, watching the sun rise, go on a 6 month vacation out west each winter, play fetch with the dog. You get the picture right? Nothing wrong with encapsulating your life with digital concerns to different degrees. I simply choose to try to load a pic the easy way of click n go, if it doesn't work then something far more interesting to me exists that I must attend too! LOL. My dad doesn't like dogs so it falls into place that playing fetch with one would not be enjoyable on any plane of interest to him. Get the picture.  Ha ha get it???

It's not a problem on your end, as I've posted. It's on my end. It's this new used windows 7 piece of crap I bought to replace my XP system, which I wish I could still use. But, with no OS disks, it's a mechanically good unit that I can no longer use.  Can't but a real set of XP OS anywhere.  thanks. XP was a good rock solid OS. 7 sucks. 10 sucks worse.

Just for the folks who are having image resizing problems - MS Paint which comes with your Windows operating system will resize a picture for you with just a few simple mouse clicks.  As for posting a picture from your phone - I don't even think the forum software allows for image posting directly from a phone, which would explain why you are unable to do it.  I believe it works for tablets, along with your traditional laptops and desktops.

Phil - I still have my old Windows7 Machine back east and use it when I travel back there.  I'm trying to figure out what I can do to help you maneuver with the older OS.  I'm on Windows 10 because I did the free upgrade from 8.1 on my desktop my Husband got me.  So far, while I wasn't a huge fan of 8.0, XP, 7, 8.1, and now 10, they are vast improvements over those ancient awful relics known as Millennium Edition and Vista....  Let me dig into this and see if we can figure out how to get your Windows7 to jive with the forum, now that I have a clearer idea of the problem.

Or you can pay pennies per month to host your photos here:

https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/

They charge by the bandwidth so if you are just using for a small website or to store photos it's very inexpensive.

Note: I have my website here but I'm not affiliated with this business.

You are also using Tapatalk, which incidentally this forum is set up to accept.  So if a phone isn't using Tapatalk there is a good bet it wouldn't work.

Orrum...
Are you using Tapatalk on your phone?
If not you can easily download the app and then it should work for you to post pictures to the forum.  Also the camera on your phone has it's own size settings.  You can adjust it to takes photos of a certain size.  I have a Samsumg Galaxy S3, it's old but I can adjust picture size under the camera settings easily enough so it automatically can take smaller pictures, which would easily upload to the forum then.
