Anyone know of any way to solder a pin onto a pewter piece without melting the pewter? I tried the usual way you do silver, melted the piece horribly! Then tried low temp paste, also no good. Tried 3 grades of super glue, e-6000, etc. All no good. the glued stuff just peels right off the pewter. And the pewter piece is too thin to dril and epoxy, so I'm stumped! Any help out there?

Go to the local plumbing section of your local home improvement store. You can get low temperature solder that melts between 200-400F. Should work fine without killing your pewter. I have a small coil of the stuff that came with a soldering iron attachment for my woodburning tool. Melts at a pretty low temp. I found this on FMG, and it's meant to look like pewter when it cools.

Pewter is basically tin so you need something that melts at a lower temp than tin. Good luck :hello2:

Any stained glass soldering iron will work, pewter and lead melt and react very similarly. You can even do repairs on pewter with lead free solder if it is going to be touched a lot or worn, or leaded solder if it is a decorative piece that isn't going to get too much contact. If you use 63/37 solder you can do decorative work that will mimic the cast work on the original pewter piece. HIH.
