Title: New August/September Cabs
Post by: gemfeller on September 18, 2016, 10:41:20 AM
With the hot weather mostly over and with some equipment problems fixed, here are a few cabs I've done recently.  Thanks in advance for looking!

What's the size on that Ridge Crystal? That one looks like it could have it's own thread in the opal section. Especially if you have photos from other angles.

Vince, it's 3.9 ct., just slightly under 10 x 15 mm.  It's a stinker for me to photograph - most of my shots make it look either better or worse than it actually is.  It's basically green/blue rolling flash against an N7 base; the red in the posted image is a lighting artifact.  I'll try re-shooting it later in the week.  Thanks for your suggestion.

Oh do I know about trying to shoot that type! That one is good enough to be worth it, though. Might try it with water just covering it - maybe 1/4" to 1/2" over the stone. Maybe a black pan with a small coiled piece of wire to get it off the black to avoid the doublet effect. Just anything to raise it a bit like the "floating" cab photos on other threads.

If I had it I can imagine hearing Robin's voice over my shoulder saying "Are you STILL playing with that opal?".

(Because I WOULD be!)
