Title: Using Square
Post by: Enchantra on October 16, 2016, 08:55:42 PM
OK so I'm signed up to do a show mid-November and I'm trying to get things together right now for it.
For those of you who have used "square" as a means of accepting credit cards, how has this worked for you?  What is it's ease of use?  Do you link it to Paypal somehow?

I'm a technological Luddite and admit to it, but being able to accept credit cards makes for more sales at shows.
I'm looking at using Square and have it attached to the old Ipad my Husband gave me (It's his old one) for accepting payment.

Thanks for any words of wisdom!

You can use paypal to take credit cards. I have several friends that do it. I also am a luddite  and don't know how.

I've used Square for about three years now. Once signed up Square sent me a free little magstrip reader that plugs into my Iphone. When you register you need a bank account that the deposits will go to and the bank routing number. After that is set up your set.

Swipe a credit card, enter the dollar amount and your done. It automatically goes to your bank account.  You can enter your clients email address and they will receive a email receipt for their purchase.

Once you've created an account you can also take credit cards over the phone providing you have the card number, its expiration, name on the card, zip code for the cards billing address and the three digit number on the back of the card.

Square takes 2.75 % for a swipe and 3.5% for a manual key in.

Its very convenient and easy.

Cheers,

Kent

I use PayPals "triangle".  Payments go into your regular PayPal account and links to banks.  In addition PayPal sends you an email receipt of the payment. Very user friendly.....

I use the Square in my business when someone wants to pay by credit card and it works great except I have to take the otter box cover off so the scanner plugs in all the way. I don't know if square has the feature where you take a picture of the card and it scans the bar code

I use the paypal here swiper. Goes straight into your paypal account and then if you do enough business they will send you a paypal debit card so you can use your paypal account to get gas and groceries or whatever. You can also do cards over the phone and key it in, but if you key in too many cards within a week (I think it is $5000 in a week) without using the swiper that they send you, then they may put a 30 day hold on those funds until they make sure it is not some scammer just punching in card numbers. If you swipe all your cards then there will be no hold.

I have used Square for several years now. It is very easy to use and the funds go right to my bank account.

I've never done a show before, but my son want to. He is taking some things to a local art show this weekend and he has been looking into Square, also. We've been trying to decide between square and paypal. So, this thread has been helpful.

My wife and I have a Square account.  We upgraded from the old knuckle buster as soon as Square came out and now have both the chip reader and the Apple/Android pay device.  At this point 80% of all out sales are credit card with maybe 15% cash and the rest in checks (mostly people we know).  I can't compare the advantages of the 2 main systems but if you are going to do shows, you need to be able to accept credit cards now days.

Good luck with your shows.

Thanks.
I'm not doing the show mid-November anymore.  However I will be sharing a booth with my friend Mia at Pow Wow in Quartzite in January.  So I'll be grabbing a Square for that.
