Title: new jasper patterns, great trip
Post by: 55fossil on October 26, 2016, 08:14:20 PM
Well, I have been out exploring in the Owyhee's again on a private ranch. Found some veins with primarily blue jasper but several variations. Here are some pictures of the best vein and a preview of the jasper coming out. I have not figured out if this vein was uplifted or slid down the hill to it's present location. I am going with an uplift many years ago. Anyway, the end of the vein is all shattered pieces that are only good for tumbling or small cabochons. As it moves to the left the pieces get bigger and more stable. Some pieces still go to pieces as you try to take a test chip. Yep, not stable... But, the stable pieces are incredible. Here are pictures of the vein. I will post some pictures of slabs soon from the other patterns. The patterns are not consistent with the vein layers.... aaaargh.... Every piece is different and very few pieces are worth dragging down the hill to cut. So I cherish the good pieces.  Oh yeah, 75 degrees and partly cloudy on Oct 26.  wowser

Neal,
You are having way too much fun out there. Raining good today on the wet side. Looking forward to the pics.
I cut a couple slabs out of the box I got from you last night.... still happy.
Livin' the dream....
Bill
