Title: Jasper digging in the snow..... jasperitis
Post by: 55fossil on December 01, 2016, 02:09:37 PM
    Okay, I did not think it was going to snow. Sun came up and an hour later the wind was howling and the snow was dropping, but not too heavy. The Owyhee's are like all good places and the weather likes to mess with you. But the jasper was cooperative and I think I got some good material. Brought home about 100 pounds of which a lot will go back to the hills. But here are a few pictures showing the good spots where I chipped the edges.
   The white stuff is a mixture of quartz, calcite, bentonite and I am not sure what else. The biggest piece is just over 30 pounds. The colors are blues, grays, deep red and burnt orange to brown. It will be a few days before I can get the junk off the outer rind before I can put any in the saws.

PS:   I had a nice campfire, put my coffee pot in the coals and a can of soup at the edges. Soup was just right for lunch and kept fairly warm if a bit wet. Cannot wait to get out again...  Neal

Orrum;

    I do not really go rock hounding. Kind of go to a couple special spots to be alone with the Owyhee's. I do like rock clubs and donated my plume agate claim to one and still am a member, just not what you call a social animal anymore. This is my social release. But thanks for asking and good hunting.  neal
