Snellling is a bit east of Merced, CA. It's a section of the Merced River that was dredged, for gold, for almost 10 miles. The dredgings are all piled up along both sides of the river. Someone recently posted on Facebook a picture of some very nice poppy jasper. There's other stuff there too. Dredging usually gets less than half the gold, so there's a good chance to get some if you bring a pan.
On December 31st a group will be meeting there, at Henderson Park, at 9:30am. Everyone is welcome. I'll post pictures of what I find.
Here's the GPS coordinates: Lat. 37.522859° Long. -120.428204°

I didn't find anything worthy of a picture. Just some dark reddish purple jasper, lots of serpentine, and various quartz. We covered only a tiny portion of the area. I will be going back again soon.
