I've been a woodworker since I was a kid but have been making jeweler for only two years. I decided to design and build a jewelers workbench for myself. The design is a product of my meager experience, and looking at a lot of pictures of benches and watching a lot of videos of people using their benches. I have only made a handful of pieces using the new bench but so far I am very pleased with it. I am about to retire and plan to spend my time doing the things I enjoy (woodworking, lapidary and making jewelry). It will be interesting to see how the 3 merge as the years go. Maybe I will make a little money, maybe I won't. Doesn't really matter as long as the stress is low and I'm doing the things I enjoy.

They merge just fine, and more. I used standard pre cut lumber 2x4ft. "die block" for the top over 2x12"and 2x6" for the risers. This sets on top of a 3x5ft. Oak school desk, with plenty of drawers. Added a roll out drawer and arm rest. Mine doesn't compare with your woodworking skills.

That big drawer is awesome! I would have probably made a bench very similar to yours if I hadn't turned down an old oak desk that was offered to me a few months back. I was kicking myself when I started thinking about making a bench.

You both have made great benches! I'm envious I don't have the woodworking know how to make my own. And Rellis - those dovetailed drawers! :notworthy:

Sweet. Nice work.

Very nice. I won't show a picture of my Franken bench. Made from an old computer desk

One thing I would like to suggest is a tray underneath the bench pin to collect the saw dust and/or metal filings. Gold and silver dust is still worth $$$ when turned in as scrap...........Keep the gold & silver separate.
Great job on the wood working..................... :headbang:

Excellent point, Steve! :icon_thumleft:

See that little thin drawer below the bench pin? That be the catch tray :azn: Also added a light to the cubby. Also made a tool holder from the piece of wood from the cut-out.
-
Mine works this way, push in the roll out drawer and pull out the center drawer of the desk. Cookie sheet works fine, wife wasn't happy!
-
Yeah, but cookie sheets are cheap! :toothy12:

Yes, I found out , she bought a 3 pc. nesting set.

I envy your woodworking skills. That is one sweet bench. So jealous!

Very nice work. Here's some pics of a black walnut dining table I made from a local tree that I air-dried for 10 years (kiln drying kills the grain highlights).

Wow, that's beautiful! :notworthy:

Hummingbird,
Thank you for the appreciative comment. This was the last project that got me inspired and provided a high level of involvement-- which was most enjoyable, as I've been suffering a "writer's block" symptom in woodworking for a long time.

I love the way people who really know what they're doing make everything look so easy. Very impressive m8.
