Title: To paint or not to paint?
Post by: Grayco on January 22, 2017, 02:39:35 PM
So, I'm looking at this saw and wondering...... Is there any reason to paint the inside of the box?  It's going to be covered in mineral oil. After I removed all the old paint from the inside I kind of like the look of unfinished metal.

Do any of you suffer from corrosion on untreated steel inside a saw?

I don't bother to paint the inside.  As you noted, the oil will prevent an rust.

Paint would help with protection from abrasion.

I hadn't thought about the abrasion issue.  This saw is made of 16 Ga. steel.  I could keep a sheet of plastic on the bottom and replace it as time dictates.

Thanks for the thought.

Thanks for all your inputs.  I believe I will leave all my saws Paint-less on the inside.  I think it will make maintenance easier and a surface covered in oily rock dust isn't going to look any better with paint on it.
