Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest. Contest begins on the first of the month and ends on 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the month. NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden. You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc. After all, this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest! We love free form cabs! Pull out the stops and give us the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces. Just the cab.
7) Cab sets are OK.
8) This is only for bragging rights and your cabochon photo posted up top in the forums unless someone posts a lapidary related prize and wants to ship it to the winner of the contest.

Well done Shaun, I have troubles with the pics as well.
My entry is a thunder egg cab from Agate Creek, North Queensland, Australia.
The area has a number of outcrops all with distinct differences. This egg is from the spring creek deposit. What is of interest is the sardonix, the layers vary about 23 degrees, the earth has moved. I have found agate about 2 miles from this site with 18 degrees variance.

OK, I'm in this month. I have a Laguna Lace cab with a natural druzy edge on the top.

I finished the cab a couple days ago. I took these pictures and shared it on my Facebook, but I was very unhappy that there were some obvious scratches that could not be seen with the naked eye. Unfortunately they drove me crazy in the pictures.

So I went back to the wheels. Took it back to 280 and started over on the face. Got the scratches out and I think the slight change in the pattern from re-working the face actually made it better. Here is the finished cab:

Nephi Palm, spent several hours digging and managed to dig up one small piece of palm wood. I've posted probably to many pics and finished both sides. This is crazy material as its patterns change so much it appears to be a start of the root ball as your getting the dots along with the grain.This one has a couple blemishes but I decided to use it for the contest because of the patterns in it.

It is going to be a hard month to vote for a winner with the caliber of cabs coming in. I am working on one but I don't think it will be much competition. People should post a cab even if they don't think they stand a chance, everybody posting is a winner.

Hi All
I have to 3rd that. I also entered on the old forum and and still havent got 1st place. Because of life I have very limited time to cab. I am a winter cabber and in the summer I am lucky to get 1 done a month. I enter because I like to compete and I can look back and see if I have improved.
Even if you dont think you can win just do it. I have come in second 2 times and that is real cool with me.

March is about over and I finally got busy with a cab for this month's contest. There are fine entries so far and the competition will be tough.
This cab is Bou Hamza seam agate from Morocco. I had one fairly thin slab and decided to give it a try because of the nice elongated pattern. It was pretty easy to work but developing an even dome on thin material always takes a bit of effort. I think it came out OK.

Wow, what a stone Rick! I finally finished shooting the latest stones from the garage. I have been busy and my sister is down getting more lapidary instructions right now. I cut this piece of Red on Red Pigeon Blood Agate I collected last year. I like the red in clear but the red on red just has that wow factor. I ended up doming the other side of the slab because I saw a hairline fracture on the side in the photo you can see towards the bottom but it didn't travel thru to the other side.
Voting will be tough there are some amazing stones this month!

That's great material and a fine stone Steve. Thanks for the kind words. It's ironic -- I almost entered a Pigeon Blood cab this month. A friend sent me some new rough and I started slabbing it but decided to hold off until I had a better selection of slabs to choose from. I hope my batch yields some goodies as nice as your entry.

Yeah material has tons of fractures so slab a lot to get some good cutting pieces. Never tried digging to get under the freeze thaw zone that kills some great material.
