Title: 6 years and counting
Post by: Neural on April 26, 2017, 12:58:40 AM
It's been six years now since our lives (my wife and I) collapsed financially.  Every year that's gone by has been anything but "recovery".  We went from a house, to a smaller house that was filled with family items (they didn't live with us, but furniture, etc. was all there), to a 2 bedroom apartment, to now living with other family.

I have carted around 100+ pounds of tools and related things, never having a chance to so much as pull it out of the boxes and look at it.  Always just moving from one storage space to the next.

I am at a point in my life where I have no faith whatever that things will ever improve (there's a lot I'm not saying here regarding financial situations, etc. because it's personal).

Having those items in storage, and not being able to use them, is painful.  It's a daily reminder of what was.

Every year that passes, the resale value drops more and more.  The steel rusts, the plastic stiffens.  I have no idea if the pump on the Genie even works anymore.

I am, at this point, considering getting rid of everything before it is of no value at all.  I have not made a final decision yet, but if anyone has interest in some of the equipment, let me know.

Jon, that's painful no matter how you look at it.  You invested so much time and energy into this hobby besides money.  I feel for you.   :sad5:

That said if you do decide to start selling stuff, I'd be interested in the genie if my Husband will let me buy it.  He controls the household finances, so I have to get his approval first.

Hello Jon,  The one thing I have found that always stays the same is that nothing stays the same. All things change.

Everything in it's time. Ecc 3:1-8

Being content in the time you have is the trick.  Phil 4:8-13

Keep your hope alive and keep your eyes on Him.

What part of the world are you in?

Hi Jon

I can feel your pain. In 83 while I was in the Marine's my parents house was lost in a flood I thought I lost all of my equiptment. Second time was in the early 90's when my ex left and took everything but my pants. Heck she even took the dog. It was just a few years ago that I was able to get back in to it with my origional machine that was some how saved for over 30 years.

Dont give up hope

If you have a small trim saw that might need a good home I might be able to help you out.

Bless
Shawn

I'll keep that in mind, though the subject of this thread came up earlier today and my wife's response to the idea was akin to "over my dead body", so I'm apparently not going to be acting on this.

A lot of the problem is likely depression, but  a major thing for me is that I am easily agitated when I invest in something and then don't use it.

@Back: I do have a trim saw, but it's already spoken for by the person who gave it to me years back.  Sorry.

Wishing you all the best. Keep your head held high. Life will get better.
My youngest would be saying, I hate the monetary system, why can we not go back t the old bartering ways. Swapping. Oh to be that age again.
Keep strong.
