Title: Aussie turquoise & test of using Google photos
Post by: southerly on July 20, 2017, 05:20:15 AM
Testing out the links to Google photos as I move off flickr. Here are 2 Aussie nuggets from Amaroo, Northern Territory, mined in the 1970s. They are 80gm and 250gm, I recently face polished the larger nugget to see how it came out, both take a excellent polish.

Humm, I can find a link but not a URL for the image. There are some suggested workarounds online but they are all fiddly. Anyone have an answer, so they will display in the message rather than a link? The problem is determining the URL.

There is no way to currently embed photos using Google photos.  They got rid of Picasa, which had the feature and was easy to use and replaced it with Good photos, which is useless.   :Bash:

Never been able to find a way to get it to work either, I use imgur for everything now.

You might try postimg.org (http://postimg.org/). Quick upload, then you just copy and paste either the "thumbnail" or "hotlink" for forums code into your message here. It's free, and you don't even need to set up an account (though you may want to if you like it).

Thanks r2d and everyone else. One solution I have seen online is to use blogger, imbed a photo into a blogger blog, that creates a archive of the photo so it persists in the blog. From there you can open the html code for the blog and get the URL of the archive. Yep that is fiddlely as...

Photobucket was so much easier to use when posting pictures,  it is just about worthless to me now it I can't use the 3rd party posting anymore.

southerly, what has worked for you so far at posting pictures?

I use flickr but I am concerned they will go the same way as photobucket so I copied all my photos to Google.

Why don't you just upload them directly to the forum?  Way easier, IMO.   :icon_sunny:
