Title: Thunder egg slab
Post by: Kaljaia on July 29, 2017, 09:51:14 PM
So it's been kinda warm in Oregon lately... 100+ is pretty common, and we're looking at 106-110 by the middle of this next week, so I haven't been outside much. Rock cutting time is the one hour window between when the sun goes behind the hill and when it gets too dark to see, as my 'shop' driveway has neither shade nor artificial light.

But I got one slab done the other day!

It's from the 'Reservoir Bed,' which is up the hill from the reservoir, naturally. Took some local kids up there to get eggs a few nights ago and slabbed this off after cutting a couple little ones for them. Ended up sending the slab home with them for their mother, as they're just starting in the rock world and bribing a parent with something pretty and shiny is good business ;) they can say 'yes see this is what all those uncut brown lumps look like inside!' maybe, at least.

Fantastic slab. Mom should be thrilled! Hoping the heat predictions turn out to be wrong, but I dragged out the fan last night, just in case

Yeah trying not to get roasted! I suppose the mineral oil is good for dry skin tho.
Gooped up the pump on the saw last night. Will be rigging up the paper bag oil filter hopefully tonight.
I'm cutting out little pattern pieces on the trim saw for a mosaic and have found a great use for some of the softer, pitted but nice colored material.
