Colbaugh's the owner of the mines I think most of this came from, sells it for $250 per pound and up.

hey there, the best i could do at this time would be for 1/2lb at $125, with the rate exchange that puts me way up there. my daughter is getting married in 3 weeks so the next time i will have a chance to bid in an auction will be in the new year :headbang: .
ERIE (Jamaican word, means "no problems")

For you, I'll do $100 for the half pound so you can cover the import fees, customs, etc. Did regular US mail work last time or should we use FedEx?
-
thank you. i never wanted to under bid at any time. that wouldn't be fair or very nice. yes, no problems with regular snail mail delivery, with the extra padding you put in before worked great. send me invoice via paypal. when i get into town sometime this week i'll look after it. mary..

Yes, I have several pure black basanite (poor mans black jade) slabs out in the garage . how thick?
-
don't know how thick. i'm new to using it for backing or anything for else for that matter. could use your advise
-
What are you trying to back? It's mostly personal preference. Some folks like thick backings, some hate thick. personally, I think OK to go thick on inexpensive material, but on expensive material that is sold by the carat (like opal, turquoise, etc) it should be thin or you can be seen as adding weight to get more $$.
-
Personally I feel maximum carat weight should be the stone prior to backing or sealants otherwise it does inflate to cost for cheap material (backings etc).
-
i'm backing both opal and turquoise so thin is best. personally i like thick and heavy but with the stone and not the backing.

True, But on lots of agates, jaspers, etc, it just doesn't matter... and if doing a pendant, the black backing makes it look better plus the added weight makes it hang better. By thick, I mean 3 -4 Mm. by thin I mean 1 - 2 mm.

I can pick out the thinnest I have out there, but the absolute thinnest are already gone. Had a guy take all the thinnest and promise to pay, and never got it. You can always grind/polish then to whatever thinness you prefer. How many slabs you want? Lets say $2 per slab. slabs are about 3 to 4 inches diameter. Thickness varies.
I can also send some small whole rocks (so they fit in the SFRB) that you can cut yourself. $2 each.
-
slabs are fine. about 5 slabs is good. thickness can vary i'll just grind it down when needed.
-
OK. Will paypal you shortly.
let me find them first to make sure they too haven't been "appropriated".
-
no problems and no hurries
-
