I know two people that when they open the two FRSB's, that two fortunate people will be ALL SMILES.
When you get the boxes, know that i hand selected the FILLER rocks from my STASH.
There is of course ONE slab, plane jane stuff i am not sure what it is. Its a washington rock i got from the gold claim on Blewett pass.
Its speckled, kind of bland colors unless wet, red, green dots and some other swirls. I havent worked any of it, but i KNOW it will be nice, get it wet and look it over.
you two are my guinea pigs for that material, it will polish great too.
The rest of the slabs in the box are the surprises.
-
Oh! I LOVE being a guinea pig!!!!! (I'm so glad you spelled that one first, I would have messed it up for sure!) I'm really looking forward to this, I'll let you know when it comes in. Woohoo!!!!!
-
i had to use spell check lol!
:laughing4: :laughing4: :laughing4:

I can't wait to read the posts on the extras sent. This is going to be a good day for two recipients.
-
Ha! YOU can't wait?!?!! Neither can I!!!!! :glasses9:
-
Ha! YOU can't wait?!?!! Neither can I!!!!! :glasses9:
TWO very very LOOOOOOOONG LOOOOONG painful miserable days left...muahahahahaah!!!!
-
Have someone VIDEO record your faces when you are opening the packages please.
There is a couple slabs in there that ARE going to drop your jaws in disbelief -- Guaranteed.
-
THEN, post photos of all the slabs so everyone here knows to bid on auctions i hold here for my personal gain.
I dont value rocks like most people do, gram weight or by the pound.
They are just rocks.
I value friends over rocks. and since I took so long to mail them the OTHER slabs will MORE than make up for my laziness(lack of free time to do anything).
-
and no, i didnt fill the boxes with baby poop colored jasper. sorry.

Robin and I were out all day, so we just read this post. Video? Heh - after reading this post the box might not make it in through the front door in one piece!
So, maybe no video, but we will definitely take some nice pics of the slabs to post up here.
Oh yeah, that Ice lady? She'll try anything - lapidary-related of course - and she always seems to make it look great.
-
Well, thank you! But then again, that baby poop might take a REAL artist to make it work. hehee... Ok, not real baby poop (thank goodness!!!!!). :icon_cheers:

i dont have any real babies for it anyhow.
Im thinking i may hack out that center with the bluish agate and make something some day
-
Hi Phish.
I like the way you think. Robin frequently asks me why I'm spending time on "salvage" projects. Cutting the center out of that piece is just that sort of thing, but I like it when I can turn the sow's ear into the silk purse. Sometimes, though, I just wind up with something you couldn't even put into sausage... .
-
all day today and all day tomorrow until your mailman shows at your homes.
Thats going to be A VERY LONG two days....Jusat sayin.

Oh the stuff i put in these boxes are nice too.
One slab in each box, i have no clue what it is.
I just want to see what you guys do with it because i know where ALOT more of it is and i know for certain it will work well and polish up to a high gloss.
-
Oh crap, you know what that means? Ice will see it before we do, since we gotta work day jobs and won't see it until around 6:00 MST. AND Ice is 2 hours ahead of us. :icon_scratch:
Ok, Ice, your turn to gloat! :glasses9:
-
all i know is if i have another slab auction on this website, the bidding will go up and up and up because of the SECRET FILLER slabs both your households will photo and post pictures of..
-
i cant wait to see the cabs and finished jewelry you all make.
-
Oh, no worries there. We'll take photos of everything and post them. :occasion14: :occasion14: :occasion14: Who knows, I may even find some time to cut something to enter into the contest. :icon_sunny:

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (That's the woohoo heard across the continent!) :icon_sunny:
What a wonderful box I got! And I have taken pictures, and included a shot of the knife I used to open it. hheee... Oh, some lovelies indeed. Thank you!!!! You know, my very favorite was the one from the auction, how exciting! So, I will post slab pictures this evening, but I want Robin and Vince to have the opportunity to enjoy their box too, and then we can post and share and gloat together. Oh. Yes, that's right, I've already started my gloating... :laughing6:
-
Sweet envy, ice says neener neener lol
-
A few of the slabs I sent out hadn't seen daylight since 1971

Ha! I love it! Neener, neener, neener!!!
And I must add, I am very impressed with the maturity of the members on this forum. :icon_jokercolor:

I ain't said nothin' 'bout being mature ....
Vince just got done taking pictures of the slabs. Gorgeous stuff, you sent, Randy, thanks so much! He'll be downloading from the camera shortly and posting pics shortly after that (dinner comes first, so he doesn't pass out!).
The fish egg slab is awesomeness. :headbang:
More to come ....
-
Ahhhh, let's see how I do with attachments.
So, peering into the box, starting to unwrap (and that fancy knife), the slabs wet.
Next post, a couple that REALLY have me salivating, close up and personal.
-
And promised close-ups. :glasses9: Woohoo, and thank you! BTW, I did not include the auction win in the close-ups, since it is pictured wonderfully in the auction. I will happily take close ups of each, but I figured maybe the shot of them all was good for seeing all of them? Don't really know yet, haven't looked at them all online yet.
-
Well alrighty then. Folks on the East Coast might get a head start on the rest of us but out here in the Wild West we can keep on havin' fun when those other folks are all too tuckered to play any more. So - here are the shots I took of the wonderful slabs Phish included in the auction box... .
The paver mold (thanks to Robin!) is 18 1/2" across the bottom, and the minty green slab is just over 4" x 4".
The unidentified minty green slab (translucent!) with the little polka dots and sparklies in it. Some nice old stock Mexican agate from the look of it. Purpley agate in the small one looks like some old stock stuff we got from an estate. The tiger striped piece is awesome - whatever it is. Slabs of turritella, travertine, and of course the auction slab finish it out.
Thanks Phish!
-
I know! Isn't it the coolest??? Thanks so much, and I am off to bed, so you cats play. :occasion14:
-
Oops. She was still awake. Goodnight, Ice.
-
ok guys, the low down.
The Calico lace (mexican lace agate purple) i got that in an estate sale as with the Onyx.
the Jasper with the heavy red line through almost the middle. well this is THE LAST ever for this rock. the site was closed down by DNR and washington dept of fish & wildlife. Polished up this Jasper is the most beautiful MOSS ive ever seen
Its from Riffe lake, you will now get an artifacting infraction for even glancing at a rock wront there.
the turritella, well thats from the rock shop, i love the stuff.
The Tiger striped jasper, it is an awsome piece, carried most likely by glaciers to Deep Creek off Higway 18 near me close to Tiger Mountain here in Washington. Its the LAST OF THE LAST unless i can find another hunk by chance, but i doubt i ever will. its heavy heavy heavy with hematite, all the dark areas in it is hematite, this stuff is wonderful to work with too.
The polka dotted stone, i collected that just because it was different from all the rocks in our mining clami on Blewett pass, Hummingbird noted in my original topic about it, now. Let ME see what YOU can do with it. i know for certain something awsome can be pulled from it. look at it close with your Loupe too.
I was thinking of making a lamp shade or Candle with it.
the awsome red, gold & agaty jasper (VERY HARD TOO) i got that in the estate sale.
Anything in the estate hasnt seen daylight before i got it since 1971 when the guys father put them in his basement.

Just the coolest rolling moss ever
-
Excellent! The cab is the Riffe Lake moss?
The purple fits in perfectly with the timeline of some we got with lighter purple agate. Also Mexican, from a 1970's estate.
Thanks for the IDs. Robin and I will both be cutting cabs from the rough from your claim. We're looking forward to seeing how the translucency and the sparkles look in a finished stone.
-
yes, the cab is Riffe Lake Moss from Mossyrock Wa. (yes, thats the name of the town)
-
i cant believe the mail people broke the Onyx top off.
-
Ohhhhh... My aching head........ :headbang:
Ok, I'll admit. You want to talk turquoise? Opal?? I got your back. And any other number of stones that have tweaked my interest over the last 20 years. (24!!! I am AMAZED out how quickly time flies). But I am going to have to trundle my way through these identifications and figure out which is which, and I am sure I am still going to have to come back for some clarification. Wow! The variety!!!!! And even the descriptions. Pale green with sparklies?? I have something I had identified as mostly lavender polkadots. ha! I'll go do some labeling, some selective identification and see what is left. Thank you so much for taking the time to identify the material, now I just need to figure out what is what. :glasses9:
-
That bland opaque stone with rust and red swirls and dots on it. I thought the spots were green. They're purple?
-
The pale boy, yes! Ruddy red/purple. And I felt even the main stone couldn't decide if it was lavender or pale green, but I guess I can see it as green. I even went and turned on my bright work lights so I could be sure!
-
Just a thought but I bought a cabochon online from someone on FB, and in regular room lighting it looks like a greyed khaki color with white banding. Put it under a daylight bulb and it comes alive - purples, pinks and greens with white banding. Put some of these stones under daylight and see what they turn out like, might be different than inside.
-
Interesting! I will have to give that a try!! I've also wondered if maybe one of them had a bit of a reaction over time with the air and had changed a bit, that once cut and polished they might look different than either of us suspected?
-
that stone came from the same general area Ellensburg Blue comes from, from the same Basalt rocks that shot up from the ground when the Mountain range of Blewett pass was created.
-
The Blewett Pass stone intrigues me because it's translucent and has little platelets of something reflective. It does also have little green spots in addition to the reddish-purple ones. The translucence should really let the stone glow in sunlight.
