Due to the generosity of Orrum I'm able to dabble a bit with US moonstone.
Did a couple of cabs, so now it was time to step it up....
From the start

32mm x 10mm at the longest and widest points
In different light, blue colour seems to come out with brown background and LED flashlight

AND, in absence of sun today; some angles to show at least some asterism

The moonstone was the perfect medium to carve a dolphin. It turned out amazing!
A happy and healthy New Year to you, Kurt!

I never get tired of looking at fish from above. Very nice.

Well done Kurt looks great love the colour change you could put it on a different colored background every day and it would be like a different piece . All the best to you and your family for 2018.

was in Bancroft, Ontario last year. they have a local site (in middle of town) where you can pick moostone rocks. i didn't realize that it was carving material. sizes were 1" nodules and less. will have to bring pick next year.
your dolphin is quite beautiful.

Yeah, they are rather small. This piece is already huge for the pieces I got. And following the crystals themselves, the themes will always have to be elongated and narrow. Thus far, I observed best light-play usually at the narrowest surfaces, giving additional challenges. :) But overall fun to experiment with and not as fragile as other feldspar.

Kurt you really done good!!! I think the dolphin was a perfect choice! Enjoy the cabin and BBQ, I still say you need some solar there.
