last weekend, i went to a yard sale.
piles of cast iron everywhere. i bought it.
The nice lady said she has a waffle iron for $100 and she will dig it out saturday night and let me know when its available.
So sunday my wife I go back. she sees me, grabbing the waffle iron to show me....
Im seeing a new pile of cast iron under the sales table.
after a minute i got the courage to ask.......this is a significant griswold cast iron piece. it needs you to love it and eat from it.
How about i restore this for you and trade that pile of cast iron under the table, not the high end stuff on the table?
She said, that pile nder the table is high end also, it just needs restored and cleaned but you got a deal!
I am very happy at this moment.
Yes, I put lapidary aside for this last year.
I buy rusty crusty cast iron pieces and remove the rust and goo on them.
its a fun science project for me.

Wow. I grew up in Virginia - where there's old stuff everywhere. What you're doing looks like great fun to me.
Only problem I have is that if I started another collection of something like that, Robin would probably beat me with one of them. One of the BIG ones... .
PS - She'd have a valid point. I come from a family of "collectors". Luckily I didn't get both copies of the gene.

👍 nothing like cast iron we still have and use the one I bought when I got married in 1973.

im infatuated with it for some reason
