Title: Outrageous Cab Contest January/February 2019
Post by: hummingbirdstones on January 01, 2019, 02:39:24 PM
Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest.  Contest begins on the first of the month and ends on 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the month.  NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden.  You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc.  After all, this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest!  We love free form cabs!  Pull out the stops and give us the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces.  Just the cab.
7) Cab sets are OK.
8) This is only for bragging rights and your cabochon photo posted up top in the forums unless someone posts a lapidary related prize and wants to ship it to the winner of the contest.

Let the games begin!!!   :toothy10:

Well I lost the original sample pictures for this cab. So if it isn't acceptable, please just enjoy and i hope it jumpstarts the contest.
Have a great night everyone.
Thanks
Mike

I've been having trim saw problems but thanks to a Forum member I think its fixed. That allowed me to dig into my stash of Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper to cut a few slabs for this month's entry.  Here's the one I selected, which is miraculously free of the cracks that are so frequent in this material.  I decided the side not shown in the rough image had better "poppies" so that's the "face" of the stone.

Been a bit lazy lately haven't I.  I will have to see what is in the rough from my recent Sagenite trips.  Heaven forbid I should go near any of those Sterilite totes lining my garage!  Spoke too soon.  Can't do it this month, crisis just came up.  You love to compete with that beauty of a Morgan.

Okay, since we only have 2 entries for January, I'm extending the contest through February.  I hope to get one cut and entered.  Come on the rest of you!  Cut a cab and put it in the contest!   :icon_sunny:

Here we go, a crinoid heart for February, I was able to get some cab time under direct supervision from the wife lol.
Notice down on the bottom left edge that critter grew some teeth!
