Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest. Contest begins on the first of the month and ends on 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the month. NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden. You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc. After all, this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest! We love free form cabs! Pull out the stops and give us the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces. Just the cab.
7) Cab sets are OK.
8) This is only for bragging rights and your cabochon photo posted up top in the forums unless someone posts a lapidary related prize and wants to ship it to the winner of the contest.
Let the games begin!!! :toothy10:

I guess I will start this off.
Here is an unknown moss agate I got in a box of slabs at an estate sale. Any ID help appreciated.

South Cady mountains material. Was just out there a couple moths ago collecting some of that material with SoCalAgatehound.

Nice!

Okay, heading out in a couple days on a trip so needed to step up before leaving. This is a tumbled piece of Malachite that I had bought a couple years ago because I could see it had plume. On cutting it didn't want to hold together too well. I hxtal'd the slice to give it some stability first and then started on the 220 wheel and avoided trailing off the edges while grinding. I took it to 14k and then Chrome Oxide on a hard leather buff well wet. I then hit it quickly with a cloth buff. The shape was dictated by the rough nodule so a no brainer there. I could have gone back to hxtal after 600 to give it some real pop but at this point it was holding it's own.

Nice ones this month!

That malachite is amazing. But I will enter anyway.

Extending through July. I didn't get a cab in either. :sad5:

A rhodonite and jasper mix from my property I found around 18 months ago, a very thin seam of manganese no wider than 3/8 thick that produced the mix.

There are lots of great entries this time around. I almost decided to stay out but then ran across this interesting material. It's Sonora Dendritic rhyolite from Mexico and I think the scenes are really interesting. It takes only a satin polish but I think it's very attractive.
This cab has a flat back and is polished on all sides. It weighs 60.6 ct. and measures 34 x 32.8 x 6.6 mm.

Are we extending this to July/August?
If so here's mine, finally :P If not, kick me off to August/September.
Freeform blue "galaxy-type" agate from here in central Oregon.

Photographed dry, in sunlight for that last one. Excuse the background shop toilet and dusty fingers!

Yep, extending!
Been so busy, forgot about it. Sorry, folks! Looks like we will have enough entries for voting at the end of the month. Always could use more entries, too! I'm going to really try to get one in this month. :icon_sunny:
