One of my favorite things to do....Here I've made a nice stone guitar pick case out of an old cigar box.

awesome!!

What a beautiful presentation box! You repurposed that to perfection. :occasion14:

Looks awesome. I have watched your posts on the picks and always wondered about pics breaking? The normal pics although tough as plastic goes has some give to it against the strings right? I could see some material being great like Jade or especially Durmortierite I have dropped cabs of that on cement and it sounds like a half dollar hitting the ground but no damage. Another question is does it affect the sound by being more rigid in playing?

Stone guitar picks will break if dropped on a hard surface. I've broken some really nice ones by dropping them while grinding/buffing. The most notable was a nice turquoise blue gem silica. I like the sound of a stone guitar pick more than plastic. I think they generate a fuller sound. It's really up to the player though.
Thanks to all for the positive comments, I really appreciate it.
Best,
Walt

While I was just looking at the case and the pics I was mentally trying to identify the material and when I looked at the clearish agate I had a thought. Have you ever made a pic out of Iris Agate? That would be spectacular!!
-
I have not, but I only recently understood what iris agate is. Some good folks here educated me on it. I may have sold some in the past not knowing what it was....Live and learn.
-
How thin do you make the pics? Iris agate generally has to be super thin to create the Iris effect.

Typically 1 to 2 mm at the pointy end...
