3 1/4” yellow cat petrified wood

Rarely would I ever think that healed fractures would be pretty (short of Brecciated Jasper) but wow they really make that sphere pop. I think because they are 90% to the wood grain it really adds a lot to it.

Wow, that's beautiful!

Your work is wonderful.

Yes the polish shows it's nice and solid all over.

Yeah, that's a great sphere. Lots of interesting things going on in it.
I'm also glad you posted it because it reminded me of Yellow Cat. Our club had many field trips to that area in the past, and some of the material we've gotten in bulk buys has been "some kind of wood" that looked like your sphere.

Hard to find a really good piece of yellow cat, that one looks cool.
-
The most interesting thing about that one to me is the way the healed fractures are perpendicular to the color bands.
-
That turned out really cool with those healed fractures. Wish to find a piece big enough to sphere some day. Another great one Jhon.

Pulled a piece from an old collection off the shelf the other day, and noticed it has some pale amethyst in one side. Has anyone else found pet wood from there with this type of inclusion?

Cool material, and nicely finished! The subparallel fracture field perpendicular to the mineral grain is a striking effect.
