I'd appreciate some advice on setting up a cabbing station. I picked up a Lortone NS8 arbor with an expandable drum on one side and a 220 grit silicon carbide wheel on the other side. I purchased a 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor off of Amazon to power it, and I need info on setting it up. Specifically, what speed should the wheels run at and what would be my best choices for belts to run on the expandable drum?

Are you keeping the silicon carbide wheel? Or changing to diamond maybe? What size wheel and drum?

I'm agnostic on keeping the wheel. If there is a better solution, then I'm all for it. The Drum is 8".

That wheel is not efficient enough. A ioo grit sic works much better. Be aware that sic wheels have to be spun dry as any residual water can flow to the bottom of the wheel and cause a catastrophic imbalance when you turn it on . $5 seconds without water works fine. Expando drums must have a belt on them when the machine is running or they can tear apart.It has happened to me when belts have suddenly failed and it is very easy to break your hand. 100, 220 400 and 600 sic belts are a good sequence but far inferior to switching to diamond from 600 and on.
