This rock was found in a gravel pit near St paul,MN. It is on the Mohs scale of about 6(?),on the surface it seems to scratch easy with a nail, but when I tried to chip it I barely scratched the surface; it is quite solid and hard , not magnetic....this one has me stumped. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I need to provide more info or if there are some other tests I could preform to figure out what this is.
Any advice/help is greatly appreciated

It looks like a piece of metamorphosed basalt and the hardness is correct as a nail would only scratcg a 5 or less. A hardened file normally would not scratch a 6.

Was thinking about this one the other night and didn't have my login with me. What does the group think about Unakite with a higher amount of Epidote and a lower amount of Orthoclase? The colors would be correct and also found in the North East near the great lakes. Hmmmm?

Hmmm. Photo doesn't look green enough or nearly pink/peach enough to me. Not seeing any sheen in the "feldspar" areas. Just don't think it has the right appearance. Would like to see it wet, also. Other than that, don't know what it could be. Lakes location right for unakite, but there's a heck of a lot of other stuff too.
