Title: Genie - Replacing the cap, so since it's apart?

On some solid recommendations from forum members (thanks again), I was keeping an eye on my Genie motor temperature since it sat for about 8 years, and sure enough it was getting hot. I took the wheels off, tipped it back 90 degrees (so as not to drop the nuts and washers inside the motor - another hearty thank you) and got to the capacitor. It's on order, but was wondering now that it's pretty much taken apart, aside from a good dirt and dust removal/cleaning,
- What else should I consider doing?
- Do I need to grease the arbors or anything else? If so, will a white lithium grease spray work or is there something better?

The arbor bearings should be sealed.  If you want to replace them, it would be nice but that is not a simple job and probably not worth the effort unless they make noise.  In any case, white lithium would have been a poor choice for electric motor bearings.  High speed bearings should be lubed with high temperature grease or oil.

Thanks for all the tips, Slabbercab! I will make sure everything is clean and just put it back together. It's not making noise, everything else is sealed, and I am not the guy to do that stuff...yet...

So I replaced the capacitor on my Genie - same make, model and specs - and the motor still seems hot in spots, especially the top left. I saw in another forum that Vince posted "The Genie motors do run hot - but not so hot you can't lay your hand on the housing. Maybe not comfortably, or for very long, but when the capacitors go they will blister your fingers and boil water," so maybe that's just the nature of the beast. I can put my hand on it for about 4 or 5 seconds... I am going to try going direct from the power outlet with a heavy gauge extension cord and see if that makes a difference.

Put a light coat of oil on the main shaft when you are putting your wheels back on and it will keep the wheel arbors from galding to the shaft, you will be glad you did the next time you go to take it apart.

It would be a good time to rebuild the pump also, but there are really very few things that go wrong with them.
