Hello,
This is my first jade carving. It is carved from a {not } the finest slab of Guatemalan jade. I have 3 other carvings from the same piece of jade, which I will show in the carving section with some more recent piece of a little better quality jade. I was driven to try jade carving after seeing pictures of ancient Costa Rican jade in a publication { Precolumbian Art of Costa Rica, Between Continents/Between Seas, Abrams 1981 } I have all ways had a deep interest in Pre-Columbian art. I like the otherness that it has, unlike Asian art which is so eager to please. My picture are not the best using only a basic camera but you can get some idea. I has some difficulty with polishing. I am not sure that my carvings really need a mirror like finish. Anyway hello! :icon_salut:

Welcome to the lapidary forum. I think you're right about the finish. Not everything needs to be super shiny. Some stones look better when the finish is smooth, but a bit in the matte side like you've done.

Welcome, from Arizona.
I think a matte finish is definitely more appropriate for a piece like the one you've shown here.
