Title: Texas rockhunting in the fall
Post by: socalagatehound on September 16, 2022, 09:35:48 PM
Getting ready to satisfy my rockhounding addiction.  I've got my reservations in place for the first two weekends of November for field trips to the Kokernot and Boxcar ranches in Alpine, TX. I'm still working out what to do with the five days in between...from November 7 thru 11. Jean has a hunt on Wednesday on the So. Larremore, but that still leaves four down days. Gotta fill in or head out. Can't sit.
My first thought is to head south and roadside collect around George West, Laredo and Zapata. My only hesitation there is that deer hunting season opens that week. There aren't any state authorized deer hunting areas near my hunting areas that I can see in the state map, but that doesn't mean there can't be hunters. I do have day glo gear.
If anybody has any suggestions please feel free to suggest.

If you don't mind my asking, how was the 06?

I'm pretty sure all those who went would agree it is a great ranch for rock hunting. Agate, agate everywhere. Lots of varied locations. Mostly moss agate, but enough plume to keep it interesting. I can hardly wait for the spring season to begin. Highly recommended.

Sweet! That seems to be the general consensus.

Phone calls will be made.
