Post by: auscarver on July 19, 2023, 07:10:23 PM
My jade fish finished with jade base and stainless stand. Quite a lengthy project.

Amazing.  the base and stand add to its ability to be be seen.  It has a certain Escherian feel to it.

Thanks. I may ad a small led light to the side of the base. Jade gets its magic from light but this one still looks good with reflected light. But I like it better with lighting.

Thanks Amanda. I entered this in 2 sculpture awards but no awards. But its all about having it shown. My fish was the only lapidary entry. Seems like it was not weard enough.

The beauty of lapidary creations can only be fully appreciated with some knowledge of the process and hard stone material properties. Perhaps the jury in a general "sculpture" event is judging it as it were a piece of marble or wood that can be chiseled into submission... Lapidary, of course, is a very different set of techniques than what they may be assuming. Artist's statement in this case should be written carefully to educate the jury and the audience as much as possible.
