Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest. NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden. You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc. Afterall this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest! We love freeform cabs! Pull out the stops y'all and give me the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces. Just the cab(s).
7) Cab sets are OK. (think pendant and matching earrings.)

Great start! I'm working on one now. (Some type of petrified material) I always say the same thing I really need to get a camera and build a light box.

I have a few cabs I'm working on, too. If any of them turn out really well, I'll post. We have new belts, and some much better polish. I'm hoping to see a real difference in the shine with the new, better quality stuff. :icon_rr:

Here we go! Went rock hounding Saturday for the third time this year! Unheard of in northern Utah. We'll be paying for it this summer with no water! Nephi I know it's thought of for Palm but I'll take any petrified wood I can find in Nephi. Look at the breaks in the colors front/back

That is a beautiful cab! I am assuming the fractures we see at the base are healed, yes? Gorgeous grainy pattern and color in this.

Those are tiny seems that run through each stone I've cabbed of the Nephi Pet wood. They look like fractures. But they are solid, I can't tell after a little windowing, so I just try to preform and go. Ill have to send you a couple to try out. I have some that go right between color changes. Ill post some in the cab section so you can see what I mean.

Tomorrow I will have my entry ready for the contest. I have been slabbing rock today, and have decided that instead of offering only 1 kind material for the contest winner, I will post a slab of a few different types and the winner can choose which slab they want (cause I already sent Sandsave some Spiderweb Jasper for a trade we did AND HE IS THE ONLY ENTRY so I know he already has some).
OOOOOOO the anti is upped people!!! :D
My cab will also be spectacular, BUT WILL IT BE ENOUGH TO WIN THIS CONTEST??????????????????????????

OK, here is my entry. Even though I am not thrilled with it, it was the plan for this contest. Red Jasper and what I think is Hematite but it undercut to the jasper really badly in the larger patches. I waited until the sun was at a horrible angle to further enhance the quality of my photo. -.-

Tiger jasper i hounded a couple weeks ago and just slabbed.
Now its cabbed.
Hematite inclusions between the jasper agate & quartz lines.
Looks like pet wood, NOPERS! :LOLOL:

Oh wow I thought that material looked good in slabs, now seeing it cabbed I realize IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cab contest is over on 3 days. :) I can't decide if I should post pics of the slabs now or wait for voting to further extend the suspense. :D
