Title: Is the 6" MK 301 blade THAT Much better than the 303?
Post by: sealdaddy on April 09, 2015, 03:02:09 PM
I cut agates often, but not exclusively.
Your thoughts, if you've had both...would be appreciated, please.
Do you really need to use oil with the 301?

I don't know about those blades but anything you cut that's solid will probably do better with oil; faster, quieter, longer lasting

I realize that, friend.
The deal is that they recommend synthetic oil specifically with one, the 301, but water is ok with the 303 because of different cutting edges.
My saws have No covers, so oil spray would be emitted into the work area. Water mist is not as objectionable, requiring much less clean up.

I use the Mean Green blades from Johns gems with water with no problem but they are not sitting in water when not in use.

A mixture of borax in the water keeps rust from forming.
I've used that for a year now...no need to remove and dry my blades.
