My preference is to use a tile saw for most of my cutting as I like the exact control it gives. My standard safety gear starts with a ground fault interrupter that the machine is plugged into as well as hearing protection , a half mask respirator , and safety lenses in the glasses. The overalls keep the rock dust out of our living spaces as does the hoodie but with my history of skin cancer the hoodie is mostly to keep the suns rays off my face. I have a clean wash bucket for my hands nearby so I keep that dust out of the house as well.

That looks like a fine set up but here in the south of Arizona you may want to wear(if I disremember correctly) a line of clothing called Frog Skin. This stuff breaths but fully blocks all UV rays to protect the skin. Several long years ago I rented a tile saw similar to that one to lay a counter top and since I had rented it for the week I cut slabs of some of my conglomerate stones from various Arizona rivers, fun stuff that, did a very good job of rock. It was 105F here at the house today.

Who needs a vice, right Frank? Bet you can slice up most chunks quicker than they could be chucked up in a vice.

A saw with a vice is out for me maybe forever because of the reaching. Get it done any way you can that is still safe.It was 55 degrees F when we took these photos. The property has been very cold this spring and 55 seemed like a heatwave. Low 40's at night so we have been reluctant to start warm weather seeds in the garden yet but we will have to chance it later in the week. Germination can be a problem in our always cold soils.

I use the same sliding bed saw with a gravity feed and sheeted in so I can use oil; put the rock against the stop and get it started and it doesn't move because of the physics of the way the saw works, I haven't made a cut with a clamp yet in two years.

Sorry :) I don't want to inspire anyone. But I will say that the table slides towards the saw, and the saw turns towards the table so that if a little pressure is exerted on the table; gravity feed, and the rock is pushed against the stop on the sliding table; it's gotta cut
