Hello,

I am new here to the forum and I am also very new to rocks. I am a crystal lover at heart; and by crystals, I mean the ones that make they biggest rainbows (which I haven't found yet). Anyway this is a great forum and I have learned a lot so far, I thought I would reach out for some help. My story is this....I bought a storage unit and it had some rocks, minerals, fossils, and some supplies. As I said I know nothing about this topic but found out a few things looking around on this site but I chose a few different ones I am trying to get info on for selling. I have no idea what I would sell these pieces for so I thought I would check here for my opal questions. Here are some pictures of what I have below, if I am taking pics wrong please let me know how I can do it better for you to help. The first thing is these are in water and I don't know why but I just left them as is, the only thing I know is the sticky note on the containers said Opal and that they are sitting in water (I think it is water but not even sure of that)
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated

Carved some steps into the tail. Looks ok but I think the mobius I used for the eye worked better.

Thanks for the great comments. It has purple and green if I look hard. More like a bone carving until you look up close. Working on design on this piece. I have another one in tiger eye thats not up to this stage yet. I need to carve into the fishtail to ad some design.

No sealing, no treatment of any kind. You'll notice the rind is very rough, but there are no vugs nor cracks once you remove the outer mm or so.

"A bit of colour" may be just perfect for something like this. Enough to reward a keen eye. Anything more would be a distraction.

A new fish I started recently. Added a mobius to make the eye. A bit of colour under sunlight. This one will have to wow with design as there is not much colour. Early carving stages. May carve more on it.

Nice. Coral. I like the colour. Did it need sealing. Good polish.

Very nice. I recently bought a few pieces of golden coral which is new to me.

The golden coral I've seen was actually one of the black coral species, treated with hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the surface to a golden sheen.

If that's what your material is, keep in mind that the golden color might not run deep, and also that it is neither a carbonate nor agate, but protein - treat it more like antler than a stone. I've cut some Maui black coral pieces... started with 280 soft wheel, and after 600 and 800 finished it off with zam to a surprising shine. Beware of heat.
