Have Question about a saw.
« on: August 24, 2016, 09:13:11 PM »

Hello all,

Are Hi-Tech 10" TRIM SAW any good?
Why i ask is because i was told their made of plastic?
I have come a crossed one for less then $400 well used
It does work it dont have the arm to hold the rock.

I dont understand why they cost so much when their made of plastic as in tank/ table.

At one time I had a Hi Tech trim saw and flat plate grinder.  They had a diffferent name at the time, but have not been changed as far as I can tell.  They both were too small and under powered.

I think their flat laps and little trim saws are comparable to Ameritool and a pretty good value for the price.  I saw their 10" saw at Buena Vista show and wasn't impressed.

If its a direct drive and variable speed, it has some advantages over other saws not having these features.  The variable speed is useful in cutting delicate stuff and or using thin vs thick blades (thin blades are happier spinning faster so that they are less likely to wobble and cut a grooved path).  I'm suspect that this saw is underpowered for cutting bigger stuff, but it is hellishly easy to clean at the end of the day compared to most trim saws.  I'd like one as my 3rd saw, not as my primary saw.

I bought a high tec for small trim work.  I think the motor is totally under powered.  I trim cab shapes with the variable speed on full and it sounds like it is going to come to a stop sometimes.  Never had such an under powered saw before.  My old 6" trim saw I could split a nodule with ease and this thing would probably freeze up.  Anything thicker than a 1/4" slab for trimming is too much.

I did get the 10" slab saw by Lortone. It should be here this coming up Friday.
Its not new but i feel like a kid in a candy store. Will post photos when i get it.

Now i need to get a 1/3 horse power motor blade(s) and oil for it.
I did find the manual for it in a PDF.

Glad you found the Lortone. There's a good thread on saw blades here:
