new cabs and slabs
« on: October 31, 2016, 06:34:09 PM »

Had some free time this morning and cut two new cabochons. These are from the new rough I have been digging this month. The rock was actually dug last week and are a new pattern/color for me. It is Deer Sky jasper. These have not been buffed on leather yet, just finished on the Diamond Genie. I was amazed at how ell they polished as I thought the material was a bit soft. Good to be wrong, sometimes.
The color range is all over from blue to gray, reds, golds and orange. Full light brings out their true color but they look okay in dim light as well.

Nice colors, it is not often to get red and yellow like that.

Orrum;   wish there was a bunch to dig. It is just isolated pockets of good material. There is a lot of smaller pieces though.  neal

Neal a guy named Alva leads our rockhounding trips in Quartzsite, one a week allbwinter, it's so much fun. Anyway Alva tells folks that one great piece of rough needs to have one great slab that has one great cab!!!  He doesnt like folks who want every slab to be a entire ly full of perfect cabs. So sounds like you got some great digs man!!!

Great color and pattern variations that make some really eye catching cabs!(bet it would make sweet beads as well!)

I hope to get back out in 2 weeks. Always hoping I will find some pieces that have less cracks and brighter colors.... gotta dream.  Neal
