Septarian

This has to be the first sphere that I have bought
Septarian from Madagascar, 6 3/4” diameter. It cost me about the same as buying a rough module.
And the odds of getting this would be slim

It has a window you can take out to reveal the crystal interior.

I haven’t figured out if this is the natural color or it was dyed.
I haven’t decided yet, but may refinish it. I think I can get s much better finish,
But I would have to glue the window in with CA glue and than stabilize the rest with
Bond optic and regrind and refinish than soak out the CA glue with acetone. If it’s dyed
It will take out the color.

Wow, Jhon, I might have to agree with Orrum on this one.  That is one awesome looking sphere and I love that the piece comes out so you can see inside.

I suppose you could test a tiny little spot on the piece that comes out to see if it's dyed without hurting it too much if you want to get a better polish on it, but it's pretty as it is.

Tuff decision to make.  Well be interested if things change if you re-finish.

That's a biggun at 6.75"!  Great window in that piece; is looks like a natural window that maybe separated along the druzy during the grind?

This was the only one that had the piece that fit back into the sphere. All of the other ones they had, had windows. I couldn’t resist it for $79.00

Nicely bought my friend!  The prices on those Madagascar "dragon eggs" keep going up, I would have guessed much closer to $150.

I’ve thought they were dyed, you’ll be the first to know.
