Well no wonder you haven't posted in a while - you've been making lots of rocks go 'round and 'round.

Looked at them all. Just tagging this reply on to the last post in this series. It's interesting to see so much variety all at once.

Can I ask what locality the Chapenite came from? Has some similarities to a rock we "rescued" a while back.

1. The grays are beautiful, and the patterns exquisite. 2. very dramatic!

I picked it from guy in Fillmore Utah, I believe he said it was from a military base, Fort Erwin maybe? I’m not sure, Bluewood was with me maybe he can recall.

Thanks, Sandsave.

Someone else ID'd the "rescued rock" slab I posted as possibly from Ft. Irwin (National Training Center) area. Northeast of Barstow in the Mojave desert. Your sphere is now the second piece I've seen from there, but it's apparently pretty well-know area for Chapenite.

Thanks!

The Ft. Irwin material is the best chapenite and now is a bonafide rare material as they fenced the area off being of military function.  The other area you can still pick is in proximal Hector Hills but even that is apparently starting to thin out.

Another great set of spheres.
