Hello, my name is Gina and I'm a rockoholic.   ;D

I collected my first rock when I was like, 3.  Last time I went to visit my Mom she gave me my rock collection from when I was a kid- not all of it was there (I used to keep my old school boxes since I got a new one every year and put rocks in them) because she had moved a couple of times and the movers charge by the pound but a few of the items that bring back fond memories of collecting with my Dad were there.  It was fun looking through it.

I like to slab and cab.  I do silversmithing and am currently learning the art of bead embroidery.  I have done chain maille, investment casting and wire wrapping as well as kumihomo and a myriad of other types of art mediums but my all time favorite is cutting and cabbing stone.

I am happy to be a part of this great family.   :)

Welcome!  Though I'd have to say with all the stuff you've listed, including silversmithing, I'd say you don't sound like a "noob" :)

Cutting stone can be therapeutic I think.   Relaxing, enjoyable, and some nice results sometimes.  :)
