That documentary...
« on: March 26, 2018, 08:26:07 AM »

You know the one. It's on netflix.
It's keeping me busy.

My voice was hoarse on Saturday from giving tours. (Which mind you I do thoroughly enjoy doing) but we haven't had this kind of traffic since 1999-2000. I'd rather folks come out and take a look for themselves (And get a tour and a cup of coffee) than believe everything they see on tv/the internet, but we've had an uptick in "self-guided" tours too. And then someone said the science channel aired a show episode about theoretical buried treasure here.... (other than thunder eggs, there isn't.)

sigh. it's gonna be an interesting spring.

Not everyone has Netflix.  I have no idea what documentary you're referring to, nor its relevance to your personal situation/location.

Sorry, the one about events in central Oregon abt 30 years ago. It's the first a lot of my generation has heard of a particular bio-terrorist attack and some other local shenanigans and since there's a limited amount of civilization between Antelope and Ashwood, well, it's pretty much the reason I have a job.

To their credit they did a good job on the documentary and presented both sides in a more fair light than has been done so far, but it's been keeping me and my coworkers a little busy.

Cutting's been good! I broke a piece on my mosaic so I have to go recut one last corner, then that project is ready for stage 2:

lithicbeads, that little saw's been getting a lot of use!

(Also I got contact with a Prineville fellow who indicated he's familiar with amethyst crystal t-eggs/geodes that might have come from the area in the 70's-80's, though I don't know what name they were marketed under and it probably wasn't 'muddy ranch' due to what was happening at the time. He hasn't come up with any location info or photos tho- anyone else heard of this? Not the Brown Ranch/Antelope amethyst, this would have been a different deposit.)

OK, now I've got it: the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his attempted mass poisonings in The Dalles designed to keep voters away from the polls so his candidates could manage a local political takeover.  That was quite a story.

Just prior to that event I was living near San Luis Obispo, CA and was having lunch one day at the Madonna Inn - which if you haven't seen it, is a landmark Disneyesque exotic place known for good food.  Anyhow I was looking out toward the parking lot and a caravan of about 15 spanking new Mercedes Benz automobiles pulled in.  I learned later they were gifts to the Bhagwan from his rich admirers and the caravan, Baghwan aboard, was Oregon-bound for their religious enclave known as Rajneeshpuram.  It was quite a sight and I recalled it vividly when I learned of the poisonings.

What I remember is the sight of jeeps with 50 cals on the back with guys pointing them at whatever as they drove past the agate diggings I was working at, no different than the Taliban .Not a good time  to be down there.

I have zero recollection of this event. Bizarre! I’ll have to watch the documentary.

Yeah. Looking back tho apparently no firearm was ever used with intent to harm another person, or at least there hasn't been any report of it. I think it's a bit miraculous that there was so much tension, and so many weapons, and at the end everyone still walked away peacefully.

I just got back from giving another 'saw it on netflix' tour!

i believe the old mines that were dug years back for uranium are being used by the Gov for storage of stuff that need not be uncovered ever again.
Just like Umatilla Oregon, that is a munitions storage facility. I think its loaded with treasures lol!
Big bang treasures.
