Can anyone help me out with this one? Only thing I've seen in person with this type pattern is Fireworks Obsidian, but the color here is different. The rocks in my head aren't able to ID the one in this photo... .

That looks like a rhyolite that I dug once just outside of Quartzsite. Didn't really have a name, but it takes an ok polish.

Maybe Frank can confirm. I gave him some double thick slabs of that material last summer.

 It looks very familiar . I have seen it around. I think that id sounds correct . The feldspar stars are wonderful things as usual.

chrysanthymum or flower stone is the trade name, found on Vancouver and some surrounding islands "Texada" specifically, and China has some real nice stuff. California has too

Thanks all. This is from a guy who also had the more typical (lower grade) Chinese Writing Rock. It appeared to be in the more greenish host rock rather than the blacker type. Same guy who had the Palomar Nephrite/Magnetite that Professor Lithic ID'd for us.

Have seen specimens of Chinese Chrysanthemum Stone that actually do look like flowers. I think some of them are etched. Usually on blacker rock. Will now just look forward to seeing how this will polish (thanks J) after we get it.
