i hate losing interest
« on: August 26, 2014, 07:37:59 PM »

lately every time i go out back to dink around with my rocks, i lose interest and walk away and go back to boredom in front of the computer.

Havent seen anything in any rocks i have cut up that sparks my creative brain cell.
All i see is teardrops pendants.

Tired of them.

Try a random shape as dictated by the stone itself?

If you trust me to pick good rock I will send you some drilled stones for you to cut . this might get your creative juices going. What do you  think?

Maybe take a class on something creative?  Or work with a group that loves the same thing you do?   Creative energy grows rapidly when exposed to the right stimulus.   Hope you find that release.   I have found that continued stress can seriously dampen the flare as well, maybe that has something to do with it?

Teardrops it might be, but how about mixing materials, cutting chevrons into them, or simply trying to go for something freestyle and giving them a molten appearance (there are some truly fantastic pieces out there that started in a regular shape, yet have morphed into something entirely different).

Or, something that is becoming a bit more fashionable these days. Taking regular shapes and do insets of faceted stones?

Well, Phish, sometimes the thing to do is take a break. Then when you are ready to cut again you'll have a fresh point of view on things and a lot more enthusiasm. Fresh ideas might even surface that would've remained buried under layers of boredom.

Know for a fact I've screwed up good stones due to forcing myself to cut, and that some of the best ones have come right after getting back into it after a short break. You'll know without a doubt when it's time to cut again. Nothing will be able to keep you from it... .

I do understand what your going thru. I say the same thing every day. But as for you, trying to beat your last project each and every time. It's impossible. Your standards you've created for your self are so high, I just don't know how you do it. I get frustrated almost on every piece about half way thru when it starts becoming that ( just another piece ). My interest then falls flat. Creating something special only happens once in awhile. My only advise is just go play, the spark will come back and then I'll get  to see another spectacular ring or other jewelry

Watch the Weather Randy. Thunder storms for tomorrow out there. I'd hit Pot luck 2 along the gravel bar. The water is way low and good digging in middle of creek. Course gold up there.
