Short of plugging a single phase motor in, is there an indication on it's label telling the direction it will turn?
I wasn't aware of motors that turn clockwise.  I only knew about "standard"(?) counterclockwise ones.
But I installed a clockwise turning motor on a machine today, and wish I had known it before installing it.

And how would it be indicated? "C" or "CC"?

The standard rotation for most motors is clockwise when viewing the output shaft from its end but because that is the standard it isn't indicated. Maybe if it were ccw it  might be indicated on the nameplate.

That is true, however, most Baldor motors are reversible.  Remove the wiring cover and check for a wiring diagram on the back side.  Sorry but I've forgotten which leads need to be reversed.  In any case, if not on the data plate it probably isn't.  That's a really nice motor by the way.  Take care of the bearings and it should last just about forever.

I've read that Baldor makes good motors, but this is definitely a ragged looking old one (see photo).  I don't own it yet, but may soon.

Some motors will specifically state if they can be reversed.  (the most recent one I worked on stated . . . reverse black and red wires to reverse motor direction).  On the other hand I tried to do that blind one time and was never able to reverse a different motor so some apparently cant be done by an uneducated person.   Plugging it in is part of the fun of buying cheap used motors . . . just don't electrocute yourself when doing so.

Don if you have the room with your project just swap the motor 180 deg and it will turn your pully the opposite direction I'm assuming that you will be using it to drive a different pully say on a shaft.

You can look under the wiring cover plate. Sometimes, maybe not on one that old, you can see two terminals; one labeled C and the other CC.

Right, and I will do that, if needed.  I was just asking the question, friend.
I guess I learned, the hard way...it was a real chore to swap out motors to one I had that turned the direction I needed. Next time, I'll just plug it in.

I bought a 1 1/2hp motor for my Jet table saw and it turned in the wrong direction so I swapped it end/end.  It was a chore however so I feel your pain.

This wasn't a lapidary usage,per se... it was a shop ventilation safety issue.
And I was luckier than you Rockoteer...I just put on a different motor.
I have no idea what CFM it will exhaust, but I'm changing the pulley size (lowering the larger 8" one to 6" diameter) to improve it.

The Baldor motor plate shown was not from the motor I used.  That was just a plate photo I have access too.
But apparently the one I tried 1st was also 115/230
