One last try for today. Went back to well worn 600 and then 1000 in the palm of my hand and thru to 1/4 mu. Did a Jadeite from Clear Creek California for comparison. Things got a little better, but not right yet. Made another mistake on the Jadeite, cut the wrong side of the slab. Some of the skin went deeper than I thought.

Better - I think you may want to try two new things.

1) Less pressure at 1000/1200 and scuff polish to see if a shine starts to develop.  Let Jade dust build up as I think the dust/mud helps the polishing.
2) VERY fast hand motions of 90 degrees and then a rotation 180 degrees and fast 90's again.

If you get a polish at 1200 on a twisted fiber piece the best polish you may get is to go from the 1000/1200 directly to 14,000.

Every piece of Jade seems to have it's preferences in polishing.  I write notes on the test polish piece so that I do not need to start from scratch again to appease the wishes of the Jade.  I have worked so many Jades that I can usually tell at the 1200 sanding stage what steps I will be using to get the best polish.   I both sand and polish at 1200 )NOVA wheels) diamond.  I sand with water and then almost dry to scuff polish....

Thanks REDRUMMD, I tried your stroke pattern of ///\\\///\\\\ and it made a difference. As you say , I will have to work on my touch. I hope I get it right soon because I have a pile to work on.

I love the tips you find here.  I always struggle with Jade and have noted this for the next time I venture in my Jade box.  Thanks much.  Is there any tip that you have for chatoyant Jade?
