found out i REAAALY need to make the fender in my saw before going much further in cutting a bunch of rough.
The seam in the lid and cabinet right behind the blade likes to splash the oil right out and onto my concrete patio.

Other than that and NOT being able to watch the stone cut. i am completely happy with my new beast saw.

looking for an old bicycle fender now.

absolutely; even the hooded saws benefit from some kind of shield around the top/back circumference of the blade so the spray hits something instead of wherever it can find to leak out of any tiny hole; and it keeps the rock snot in the sump instead of coating the inside of the hood.

Why keep the rock snot?

You can recover the saw oil from the rock snot and reuse it.  Saw oil gets expensive to replace.

I researched some prices on that stuff. Is there a procedure you go through to recover it?

What we do, and a lot of other folks, is when you're cleaning your saw, dump it into a double brown paper bag that is sitting in a 5 gal. bucket with holes drilled in the bottom and lower sides.  This is sitting in another bucket with no holes.  :D  The oil will seep through the bags and holes and into the bottom bucket, available for reuse.  It takes a while for the oil to completely seep out, but it's a worthwhile endeavor.

Now that's crazy. Great idea. Thanks for sharing that with me so early in my Lapidary hobby. There's always a learning curve, and sometimes a bit shy about asking shortcuts and tricks of the trade. It just so happened I inherited a bunch off my Dad's Lapidary equipment and a crap load of his rocks... Blah, blah. Want to get some things rolling. Thanks for the help and great info.
