Genie trim saw attachment
« on: August 08, 2016, 01:35:24 PM »

Hi All

Has anyone found another blade that will fit this other than the DP blade that was made for cutting glass? I am thinking about modifying it so I can fit a 5/8 inch arbor saw blade on it.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Only other blades I've found are very expensive from a specialty diamond tool maker. The only good thing about them is that the core is made of high tech memory steel. Last time I checked, they had a min. order of 10 blades.

Check some of the Chinese blades. They may make a knockoff to fit the Genie.

Genie has a 1" arbor, the Australian guys at Quartzsite in the Desert Gardens show as I bought some Chinese blades 6" and up with 1" with shims to downsize if needed so they are out there.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies.

Jake thanks for getting me thinking about off brands. I found on ebay  a notched 1 inch bore for 20$ and a 25mm continous rim for 30$ I an sure that I will have no problem opening that hole up by .4 of a mm. I will let you all know how that works.

Just a note for Quartzsite, the Australian guys charge 6 to 10 dollars for the 6" blades if you have a chance to go next January and if you buy a bunch they lower the price.

Hi All

It would be a dream come true to go to a big show. I did order a blade from China so I am waiting. I did ping or dimple the blade that I do have as I read about here. It did work for about 15 min. before it was dull again but I was able to cut 2 small preforms.

I do like my Genie but the more I think about it the more ticked off I get about the attachment. It is not cheep and all DP offers is a glass blade and the arbor size is non standard. What were they thinking :Bash: :Bash:

End of mini rant but I just am playing the waiting that might last until September.

DP was thinking that they'd make a trim saw attachment with an odd arbor size so we'd have to buy blades from them. Didn't take China long to catch on to DP's scam.  :LOLOL:

Hi All

I just got my new saw blade from China and I cant wait to try it :headbang: Within 5min I bored it to fit. In the pic you will see the DP blade on the left and the new blade on the right. I will save the DP blade if I ever have to cut something soft or very expensive. The new blade looks like a work horse  So I now have a new question. What is your favorite additive for a water cooled blade that will help extend the life of my blades?

I add a few tablespoons of borax as a wetting agent and a few tablespoons of sodium nitrite (food preservative) as a rust preventative.
