Stone Canyon suprize
« on: January 18, 2017, 12:15:59 PM »

This stone is exactly why I do this and I think many of us here are driven the wonderment of stone and its earth connection that we need to feel human. This piece knocked me out. There's lots going on in each piece. At first I thought about making pendants as that's what I make however there are lots of stress cracks and unless I stabilize it they would just fall apart. As a group they might just end up as a display, polished only. I haven't figured a mount yet or if a "fill" material between the slabs would be added. Just great to know I have this stuff to play with.

That middle piece - don't cut it! It's awesome as it is. I see a mountain scene, sun at the top, person sitting in the middle, and flowers below. I'd frame it as it is and call it a masterpiece of nature.

Agree on the middle slab. First slab too. Just polish as is & put them in a frame.

I was happy to see the mountain appear in the right piece with a haze of clouds above it....

Is that a Jedi in the middle piece ?

Don't forget the inchworm crawling up the twig in the first piece. (Lower left)  :laughing4:

Is that a Jedi in the middle piece ?

Looks more like a Yeti to me.  (I see Yetis as often as I see Jedis.)

Amazing slabs -- lucky you!

That's it ! Positive proof that Bigfoot exists. It's written in stone.

Hxtal them before polishing or you may end up with pieces.  Like a rock chip in a window, be safe and fill the lines and pits....

Wow!  Those are amazing slabs indeed!  I have seen some beautiful triptic pieces of artwork and I think if it was me, I'd do something like that with these three.  They are stunning.

This doesn't look at all like stone canyon material but more like Morgan hill or some of the nearby Poppy Jaspers.  Stone Canyon doesn't have any Poppy eyes in it.  Still wonderful material and although Stone Canyon is awesome Poppy is better!

You could be right. It was in the "Stone Canyon Jasper" bin at Consolidated Mineral in Vacaville....None of my other Stone Canyon has eyes....
