Frosty Slabs
« on: February 07, 2017, 05:50:07 PM »

Two days ago it was 60 and sunny, so dragged the saw out and cut a big blue-tinged agate chunk that a friend and I levered out of the hill last fall. Been excited to see what it looked like!

I love the tiny orbs, but the source chunk was too fractured to get more than four slabs. I made a desk obelisk out of the rest and will be childish and clearcoat it at some point so it holds together. I have more smaller pieces of the stuff and will segment up for tumbling sometime. I really want to go poke down in the hole and see if there's more solid material in there. A water tower was just constructed down the hill from it and word has it there's more in the dump piles, but the guy who passed that along is not a rock guy and may just be seeing the blue-white veneer of thin agate veins on fractured stuff.
