I like the idea of the back on the Bird of Paradise piece (will keep the crystal top from snagging when worn over a sweater).

Thanks I  kept it because when laying it out I noticed it gave a mirror reflection and appearance of more depth at some angles, but for certain snags will be avoided and a key benefit.

Don't you just love the road back to the Sheeps Bridge site?  One of the worst roads I have driven.  We drove after a rain and our vehicles were literally 3 inches taller as the mud had caked an added 3 inches to the outside diameter of our tires.  I took photos it was so funny.

A completed pietersite ring, as well as one in progress that I am hoping will be a great pattern when revealed.

Forgive my ignorance in this question, but how do you get the curvature just right? Do you make the stone first, then form the bracelet around it? You do beautiful work!

Thanks!  I do the silversmithing first then cut the stone to match.   I have 4inch to 8inch wheels as well as the convex carving style wheels (needed mostly for rings).  It is just a bunch of time consuming eyeballing the way I do it.  This one came out to be about the same curve of a 6inch wheel so I could use it and pressure on the soft wheels to get it just right.  I think in the future i'll be more specific on these big pieces to set the curve close to a existing wheel.

A boulder opal with firebezel.

Love the rings. My wife has done some elementary silversmith but I have yet to do any. The class I want is at the same time as my stint as a monitor in our cab lab. Anyhow, we have been examining your photos and can't figure out how you get from the step where the stone is clamped into the ring (I assume that's for the adhesive to cure?) to the finished ring. Could you share, please.

All your work is beautiful, but somehow that bracelet tag completely blows me away.  :hello2:

The way you create the curvature is very impressive.

Did you create that fire bezel for the opal? I have never seen that bezel before. It’s another awesome piece.

I Just grind it out like you would any cab on wheels.  I have no idea if anything I do is normal or correct though as I am self taught, never taken a class or anything.  So there could be a better or more correct way.
