Next problem, the switch chain is broken. There is a small piece on the switch, but that's about it. At Home Depot I picked up 4', should be enough,  of sash chain as well as 36" of flat bar. I have a couple questions, I know it's a simple limit switch. What happens to the chain, does it just fall into the oil ?  Is there tie point on the carriage ? THX

The chain on our old Frantom is attached to a machine screw on the carriage. Here's a link to a thread that shows it:

Another jaw spreader method if you don't have a handy threaded hole are connector nuts and various lengths of bolts. You see a connector nut on the small dark blue rock clamp. Connector nuts are most often used in tying Redirod, allthread in the States, together for hanging lights in warehouses.

I made one of those clamps for my wife . It was a surprising amount of work for such a simple thing.

You could add a "S" hook to the chain near the switch, and hang your excess from it.

Than you end up on the short chain of things.
1/4'' inch shy of drop off.
allow enough chain  for complete cut.

Yeah, I keep an old folding 6' wooden ruler near the saw to measure for how much chain new setups need.
